My Latest Skincare Favorites for Healthy, Hydrated Skin

My Skincare Journey

During my early teenage years, I began my journey with skincare in an effort to maintain and control acne alone. I didn't have much education on skincare nor the moisture skin barrier at the time and ended up using a harsh salicylic acid cleanser followed up with an equally strong salicylic acid cream, thus creating a new problem-dryness. Not only that, but this product combination was not helping to ameliorate my issues with acne either.

Nowadays, I have finally found a sense of peace with my skin and a balance with the products I use on it. Very rarely will I incorporate BHA-based products into my skincare routine on my face now, as I truly don't find a benefit in their overuse. Instead you will most likely notice that my main focus is on cultivating and maintaining hydration. Another shift in my consumption of these products is my level of attention to ingredients, sustainable sourcing, environmentally friendly packaging, and cruelty-free practices.

Cleansing

My steps to cleanse at night depend on whether or not I wore makeup during the day, however most days that I work are spent using at least some beauty products. On these occasions, I try to double cleanse in order to really get my pores clean and not trap any bacteria under my other skincare. My current favorite combination is the Versed Cleansing Beauty Balm and the Sephora Clean Skin Gel with prebiotics and probiotics. Starting with the cleansing balm is the perfect way to easily melt your makeup before using a dime-sized dollop of the gel based cleanser to leave the skin feeling fresh but not stripped of moisture.

Toner

After my cleanser is fully rinsed off, I like to apply the Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Toner on a cotton round to prep before serums and ensure my cleanser is completely removed. In my experience, other toners have been too astringent and harsh on my skin and this one performs well in comparison. As a whole, I have found this brand to be very intentional in using ingredients that will make a difference in your skin without compromising on a fair price.

Serums and Creams

Immediately after my toner, I apply a syringe of the Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid. Not only is this serum the most affordable I have found, it is also a quality product without unnecessary ingredients which I can truly appreciate.

The Good Molecules Gentle Retinol Cream is one of my fundamental anti-aging steps in this routine. Many retinol creams are known to be harsh on the skin, especially when you first start incorporating them. However, I have not had this issue whatsoever with the gentle formulation from Good Molecules. If you are unfamiliar with retinol, this ingredient can be pretty powerful with targeting fine lines, lack of elasticity in the skin, and even acne.

Eye cream hasn't always been something I used regularly but after seeing the difference with my Versed Zero-G Smoothing Eye Cream I may need to repurchase when I run out! They use peptides, olive oil, and algae extract to firm and hydrate the skin.  Another nice feature is their use of ethically-sourced mica to illuminate the skin with and without makeup.  Sourcing of mica is very important to look into with beauty purchases as a lot of companies have had historically and ethically questionable labor practices with this ingredient in particular. I notice that my under eye concealer applies a lot more smooth and even when I prime with this cream about five minutes before.

Sunscreen

After looking for a daily sunscreen I truly enjoy for so long, I found one that fit the exact attributes I sought after. The Versed Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen is broad spectrum, utilizes non-nano zinc oxide, and has a peachy tone to counteract the white cast that is all too common with other sunscreens. Non-nano zinc oxide is the safest way to protect your skin and prevent premature aging while still being kinder to the environment (primarily our oceans). This product is also vegan, Climate Neutral Certified, cruelty-free, and free of parabens, silicones, sulfates, or artificial fragrances.

Moisturizer

In the morning, I like to finish my routine with a Cetaphil moisturizer containing ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. It applies well under makeup and actually serves as a decent base so your final look isn't too cakey or patchy looking.

At night, the best way I've found to try and lock all of my hydrating products in is with the Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel Cream. It has a different texture than my morning moisturizer thanks to the aloe and applies just a bit thicker, making it perfect to leave on while I sleep.

Lastly, for my lips, I find the Versed Silk Slip Conditioning Lip Oil to be a great option during the day and night. They even have beautiful tinted variations of the Silk Slip Oil that make your daytime lip look a breeze; you will never have to worry about your lip color leaving you dry and with cracked skin again!
